About this album
This was the real holiday - traveling through the high country in NSW and Victoria on some really hairy tracks that would make goats shiver! We left Tilba and camped at Kosciuszko; then to a spot just north of Omeo; from Omeo to Italian Flat (near Dargo); then to Wannangatta; then just a little before Mt Buller before heading down to Melbourne.

Day 3 from Omeo to Italian Flat - 90 km
Day 4 to Day 6
We finally reach the road heading towards Kosciuszko
Our first sighting of snow on the road - so we had to stop
As we head towards the peak, we pass Threadbo ski village
Finally at Charlotte Pass, almost at the highest peak in the country
Pretend snowball fight
On top of the world
Frozen river ...
.. makes for some nice shots
Love this one ... but at this stage, we were speeding towards finding a camp site for the night!
All packed up from where we camped for the night ... at about 1400m
Collecting snow for our Eski - it lasts longer than ice
Looking to Mt Kosciuszko from a lookout near Khancoban
Part of the snowy mountain hydro power scheme near Khancoban
Small river by our camp site on the second night - it was low altitude, but freezing
The water in the pan froze overnight
These Alpacas were as curious about us as we were about them
Town of Omeo - famous for some murders and gold mining
Monument to man's best friend
Damage from recent fires of early 2009
Life springs back quickly after the fires of February 2009
Our third night's camping spot at Italian Flat
The river along Italian Flat
Autumn colours are always pretty
Inside a disused gold mine at the abandoned gold mining town of Grant
... and here's the proof
A gold mine that is now a source of water
What was once a thriving gold mining town (Grant) in the 1800s is now just bare dirt and with no memory but some loose stones and plaques
From a lookout just out of the Grant Township area
Another one of those steep roads, but the picture doesn't quite show it
After a massively steep climb uphill - note road behind does just drop off.
From a lookout along the Cynthia Range Track
That end of the road is a very steep drop
Taken from (I believe) Mt Von Guerard 1234m along the Cynthia Range Track ...
... where we stopped for lunch
After a long harrowing day of driving, we arrive at "The Elms" - was a great little camping spot
We ate well that night
Img_9096.jpg;Wonnangatta Valley just the other side of the creek from where we camped
And this great tree came crashing down on us, missing the car by just inches
Thankfully we survived :-)
Twas nice driving through the snow ... although a bit mucky after everyone else had been through it
Walk?
View from Mt Lovicks (1684m) - it was pretty close to sunset so didn't spend much time here
Thankfully we came across Bluff Hut before sunset - and the best part was we had the space all to ourselves
View from within the hut
Spreading out
Beautiful red colour of sunset - and I didn't even enhance the colours!
Mt Buller
View from Bluff Hut. Snow capped peak to the left is Mt Buller
Sunrise from Bluff Hut
Mt Buller village coming into view
Someone had fun driving on this snow - was pretty close to Mt Buller

Almost ski season
